Homes for Heroes donated $50,000 to The MOAA Foundation on Aug. 29.

The contribution, which was presented to MOAA President and CEO Lt. Gen. Dana T. Atkins, USAF (Ret), and Vice President of Development Amanda Centers at MOAA’s Alexandria, Va., office, will support The MOAA Foundation’s newly launched Crisis Relief Program. The program, modeled after MOAA’s emergency COVID-19 Relief Fund, supports families in the uniformed services community who are experiencing financial hardships due to crisis situations.

“This money will go a long way in assisting our veterans and their families who have been financially challenged, most notably, by natural disasters,” said Atkins, citing wildfires out West and devastating floods in eastern Kentucky last month.

Through its foundation, Homes for Heroes contributes to military, first responders and law enforcement, health care professionals, and teachers facing a housing crisis or in need of urgent financial assistance.

“Our company vision is to thank every hero in the nation, and that’s a pretty tall order,” said Homes for Heroes Foundation Hero Outreach Coordinator Jay Flynn, who presented the check. “Working with great organizations like [MOAA], we are able to do that.”

Atkins encourages MOAA members to donate anything they can to The MOAA Foundation, which provides programs and support to active duty members, veterans, military spouses, caregivers, survivors, and families regardless of rank or branch of service.

The Homes for Heroes contribution “is a large donation, but the lifeline for our foundation has always been personal donations,” Atkins said. “No donation is too small. … If we can get each one of our members to designate $10 a year, that’s three and half million dollars annually to our foundation.”
