Property Tax
Local municipalities average 1.16% of the property's assessed value.
Assessed Value: Fair market value each year; inspection cycle cannot occur more often than every six years.
Relief programs for:
65 and over/If over 60 Surviving Spouse: Exempt from first $150,000 of assessed value.
Disabled Veterans/If over 60 Surviving Spouse: Exempt from first $150,000 of assessed value with service-connected disability of 50% or more.
Personal Property Tax: Yes. Rates and exemptions vary.
Property Tax Comments: A municipality may not levy a property tax in excess of 3% unless voted on by taxpayers. Additional optional property tax exemptions can be enacted at the municipal level. Relief programs in Alaska are not mandated by the state.
