As I prepare to transition, writing my first civilian résumé is daunting, should I pay for résumé writing?

No need to pay for résumé writing: You got this, and MOAA can help! Always remember that many private sector employers actively seek military veterans and the skills we bring to the table. Moreover, veterans have transferable skills that they bring to any position. The key is to master the art of résumé writing and craft that targeted and tailored award-winning résumé. While there is no set format, there are some things to do and not do:

Do:

  • Ensure no more than 2 pages
  • Use 11/12 font for readability
  • Use keywords and tailor your résumé for each job application
  • Show results / your specific accomplishments

Don’t:

  • Use italics or graphics of any kind
  • Include a list of personal awards/medals
  • Include references
  • Fold or staple
